WS 2017 Part 1.

Now that it is all over, I can update the blog about the amazing time we had in England attending the WS 2017 international camp in West Sussex.

For the first three days we were hosted by amazing families who shared their homes and families with us. I was made to feel special and the two Guides who made up the South African team were totally spoiled, starting with gifts of fluffy animals and welcome cards on their pillows.
Our first two days were exploring London.
Because we are Guides, we got to see the changing of the Guard inside the courtyard of Buckingham palace. (no photos allowed.)
We made a trip into Guide headquarters and had lunch after browsing and shopping.

Then we attended the Shrek experience where we got to live out a fantasy adventure and help save Pinocchio from the mean Rumpelstiltskin and his bad witches.

Our final treat of the day was a trip on the London Eye.

Regional Hike

Five Waverley Guides joined the Regional hike at Rustig in Magaliesberg, including three that are not yet enrolled. We had luxury accommodation for Guides - beds with mattresses in dormitories instead of sleeping in a tent on the ground. The first day was a 5km circular hike and much tougher than I bargained for but the girls managed fine. Then we could go on a game walk in  afternoon, followed by yummy supper and campfire.

The second day was only three kilometers and not nearly so steep although we did enjoy going into and out of some gorges where possibly streams used to be..
All together a lovely weekend with all the Guides behaving like Guides and making new friends, learning, being responsible and learning to lead.

Thinking Day Celebrations

Yesterday the Gauteng Central Region got together to celebrate Thinking day. a number of our new Guides and Brownies attended. Each district had to man a base representing one of the countries belonging to WAGGGS (World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.)

Wilds, our district, was given Egypt and our base involved building pyramids out of plastic cups.

We made the Newspaper!

2015 started very disappointingly.   Only five Guides returned from the holidays.   The following week, there were six and that is how it has stayed.   We decided to organise a "bring a friend/Open" Day just before Valentine's day.   Honey Bear (one of my helper mothers) took a lovely photo of the girls playing "Pile On"

I sent it to the Northeastern Tribune for their gallery with the girls names and also a short notice about our open day for their Community events.

They outdid themselves.   They combined my 2 submissions and made it an article, even adding to the information I had provided.   Thank you Staff Reporter.

As a result I have had 6 inquiries.   One was too old and one was too young and one was from a teacher in Soweto who wanted to bring her group of Guides that meet at a school.   The remaining three I am hoping to see today.

I realise that God is still in this Guiding game.   I thought He had called me to open the Rays of Hope Guides for their own sake and that Waverley was just a by product.    Perhaps it was only a stepping stone to taking over the Waverley Guides.   Only time will tell.
