Waverley Guides go to Kontiki

Kontiki this year was held at Arrowe Park in Benoni from 12 - 14 May. We hadn't been before. It is a raft building competition organised by the Scouts and we were invited by the 2nd Randburg Rangers to be part of their supporters camp. The overall theme was "Lego" and our team's theme was ..............

It traditionally rains at Kontiki but we were prepared. We had raincoats. However, there is rain and rain. We barely were able to get the tents up but there was no dry place to sit.
Only three Waverley Guides attended but there was good support from the Hillcrest District's two Guide Companies.

It rained and rained and rained.
Finally, on Saturday morning, when all the land competitions had been cancelled, we asked the Guides to vote whether to abandon camp or stay. Fairly overwhelming vote for abandon camp so we did.

Not all teams were so faint-hearted, however and some teams did finish a raft and launch it.

I'm not sure if I'm going toKontiki again.
